I know almost nothing about cars. If my car holds 15 gallons of gas, how come I just filled 15.06 gallons of that?

although the tank holds just 15 gallons, the fuel lines, fuel pump, delivery system, and tank neck all hold additional fuel... still you are pushing your luck :-)
